It feels like ages since I've written a blog post, but I wanted to do one to accompany my latest charity single Until The End Of Time and tell you more about it.
After my Mum was treated for breast cancer in 2013, my family and I organised a concert to raise money for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, where she was treated. We all performed, along with my friends, school choir and local orchestra members and raised £1,300. I still wanted to do more for Clatterbridge so the next charity event I organised was a sponsored relay run, with family, friends from school and my athletics club, which raised over £2,000.
Since those fundraising events, my family and I stayed in contact with Clatterbridge, and helped with collections at the Grand National.
With Clatterbridge being such a big part of our lives, I'm delighted to be able to fundraise for them again, even though the cause for such fundraising is yet again our worst nightmare. This time my Dad is being treated for bowel cancer at the new Clatterbridge site in Liverpool's new hospital.
Music has often been a positive way through which to express my emotions, and this was no exception, along with my inclination to respond practically. I decided I wanted to do more fundraising for the centre which had now treated both my parents. This small act of fundraising hasn't "solved" or "fixed" all the emotions and problems, but I am glad to be able to help others in some way.
Again I've had support from my wonderful family. My husband, Zak, has helped through performing and producing, while my Mum, Sister and Brother-in-law have all provided backing vocals for the final chorus. As a family we're singing to demonstrate our love and support for my Dad, but more widely, we're singing to show our hope and support for all cancer patients being treated by Clatterbridge.
I hope this charity single can provide useful funding for Clattebridge, and act as a supportive statement to those individuals undergoing treatment and their families. It is naïve to expect a song to fix everything, but I hope that in some small way it does help. I at least have felt a sense of release and pride through making and sharing it, and I hope that everyone else who hears it, sings it or shares it, knows that they're not alone when battling cancer, and together we can beat it, even if it takes us until the end of time.
If you'd like to buy the charity single you can do so here.
Tracks cost £1 but you can choose to pay more, with all proceeds going to Clatterbridge Cancer Charity. I, my family and Clatterbridge really appreciate your support!
Full lyrics for the song are as follows:
When the world leaves you broken,
With no clue where you are,
When you don’t know if you’ll ever feel free,
With your life falling apart.
You’ll never walk alone for I am always there with you,
An ever present friend for you to lean on,
You’ll never walk alone for I am always by your side,
Until the end of time, I’ll hold your hands in mine.
When you feel like you can’t go on,
With no clear path ahead,
When it seems like everything gets in your way,
With your heart full of dread.
You’ll never walk alone for I am always there with you,
An ever present friend for you to lean on,
You’ll never walk alone for I am always by your side,
Until the end of time, I’ll hold your hands in mine.
Whatever you go through, I will be here,
Whenever you need me, I will be near, don’t fear.
You’ll never walk alone for I am always there with you,
An ever present friend for you to lean on,
You’ll never walk alone for I am always by your side,
Until the end of time,
You’ll never walk alone for I am always there with you,
An ever present friend for you to lean on,
You’ll never walk alone for I am always by your side,
Until the end of time, I’ll hold your hands in mine,
Until the end of time.
